About Grainne Rafter Ceramics
My name is Grainne Rafter, I am a ceramic artist with a lifelong passion for clay. Born and raised in Tara Co. Meath, the historic locality has always inspired my work. Flowers, trees and the abundance of wildlife are echoed throughout my work. Upon completing my arts qualification in Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design, I have been obsessed with clay ever since. My work is hand built, comprising of sculpture of diverse themes and functional pieces. Form and texture are of great interest to me when I’m developing my designs, sculpture offers me boundless freedom for experimentation and creative expression. My pieces are all kiln fired and glazed, making them durable and allowing for a fantastic range of effects and colours.
My studio is open to the public where you can drop in any time and most likely find me working away. The studio is a warm and inviting space, where all are welcome to view my work and have a chat.
My Work
I love to work with clay, moulding my pieces until they appear with a character and form. Only then do I use glaze to highlight the clay and bring a shine and permanence to my work.
